There's a...Nick, digging up an old post again.

There's a lot of truth in here about how we idolize sports, whether we, or our children, are watching or participating. A lot of this just sounds like you're trying to justify not being physically active though.

"Sports are not evil, and in fact some benefits can be derived from them. Popes have even suggested that, within key limits, sports are a good outlet for males and foster bonding, which is true."

Correct.

"The body was never meant to undergo regular sessions of 'cardio workouts' (which unnaturally speed up and slow down the heart) and recreational running/jogging (which wear out and damage knee and ankle joints)"

This is literally untrue, humans are designed to be runners. Running doesn't actually damage joints, this is a myth made up by people who are too lazy to run. A bit of research will clear that up https://www.livescience.com/36241-5-experts-answer-running-bad-knees.html.

"It's right out of paganism: 'at least he got hurt doing what he loved' - as if sacrificing on the pagan altar of pleasure and (not so common) victory was worth the cost of the injury."

You can get hurt going for a "simple walk" outside. Going outside carries inherent risks!

"A similar (even more disturbing) thing can be said about how people are taught to act and behave in the locker room, particularly getting undressed infront of other people as if it's no big deal (when in fact it's very damaging)."

This was completely normal behavior before the 1960s before society became so sexualized. Again this sounds like you're projecting your insecurity.Maxnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4588905705506605875.post-69828076892872256182012-09-04T10:03:26.559-07:002012-09-04T10:03:26.559-07:00Hello JB,

I would hope more people would be brave enough to talk about these things, even if it has the potential of making them "unpopular".Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01453168437883536663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4588905705506605875.post-28745534358336097752012-09-01T08:39:54.898-07:002012-09-01T08:39:54.898-07:00Hi again,

They don't seem to have appeared yet.

But I just wanted to say, your thoughts on this subject are GOLD!! Amazing stuff.

Something I have also noticed is that Sports promote a disconnect from family and treating team as family. Most children I know who engage in sports for competition tend to be much more prone to peer ideas than parental ones.

But yea, your stuff here is gold my friend. If you wrote a book collecting this stuff, I would buy it and you would do lot of people good by making them think! :)

May God bless you! It rejects a neo-pagan notion that tends to promote the cult of the body, to sacrifice everything for it's sake, to idolize physical perfection and success at sports. By its selective preference of the strong over the weak, such a conception can lead to the perversion of human relationships.
- Catechism 2289Nickhttp://www.youtube.com/mariomusicmadnessnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4588905705506605875.post-58295523909007095892011-12-23T14:26:47.502-08:002011-12-23T14:26:47.502-08:00Anonymous,
That is an extremely important point ...Anonymous,

That is an extremely important point that I thought about adding myself, and now that you mentioned it, I will try to edit my post.

I know of so many people who were "injured" for no other reason than the abominable pagan god known as "For The Love of the Game". These people are injured permanently because they were caught up in the hype of Sports, and they weren't even doing anything extreme, just playing normally.

I know kids and adults who have metal rods in their body and who suffer from surgeries and such because of Sports. Worse yet are those "Sports" where your GOAL is to injure the opponent, particularly Boxing and Cage Fights. That's the lowest level of barbarism.

What many parents do not know is that even if their child has no intentions to hurt another person, there is always a troubled child from the opposing team that has no problem causing harm in Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, and Football.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01453168437883536663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4588905705506605875.post-46201033590985068122011-12-23T14:00:02.750-08:002011-12-23T14:00:02.750-08:00Even without knowledge of Catholic Faith and Moral...Even without knowledge of Catholic Faith and Morals: Most, almost all sports damage our human body. Sports are not natural. Teamsports are a disaster for joints, first of all knees. By running you put a pressure on your knee and foot joints, 300 or 400 % of normal pressure. Cycling is bad for your back. BUT modern man needs "exercise" : We don't burn our calories. A good way is... walking at least 30 minutes per day. Meanwhile you can pray your rosary. Our ancestors built cathedrals, the new pagans build sports "cathedrals". It is a new dance around the golden calf.
Sports come from "Sparta" in the old Greece, where athletes performed "sports" completely naked... what's even more odd: Every athlete in the old Sparta had a boy and did pedophile acts with it. This is not the case in our "modern" times, but it invites us to see the source of "sports" is a bad one.
